It’s Raining IN the Office!
Yes!!! It really was!!!! It rained INSIDE my office on Friday evening. From the 7th floor downwards.
See, it was raining cats and dogs on Friday evening. I was just passing by the pantry area when I heard loud rainfall noises and I remarked jokingly to my colleague “Eh, so loud, sounds like it’s raining inside here” Then we took a better look into the pantry area and…..
WATER WAS FLOWING OUT IN HEAVY WATERFALL-LIKE STREAMS FROM THE LIGHT OUTLETS!!!
We were all stunned for a moment coz we just stood there and didn’t move. Then we all ran helter-skelter, The Boss was shrieking “It’s flooding! It’s flooding!” and ppl started moving the couches and other stuff away from the affected area.
But our photocopier and shredder (basically, everything in the utility room) were destroyed coz the water just poured from the light outlets from the pantry all the way to the utility room (they were all in one straight row).
First thing that came to my mind was “Eh, our basement car park floods one or not?” I asked a colleague. He said YES. I went “Oh shit, my car’s basement 5! (lowest level).” So I rushed down to the lobby, and ran straight into the cleaners trying to remove all the water from the leaky ceiling. Then, I found out that the elevators to the basement were out. So I had to walk down 5 floors to check on my car. Thank gawd it wasn’t flooded. Moved my car to Level 4. Walked back up to the lobby and went back to 6th floor.
They were making makeshift barricades using piles of A4-sized forms to stop the water from spreading to the entire floor and had moved all the CPUs up to our desks and switched off the main power.
I was in the middle of revising some Powerpoint slides for today’s training and obviously, I couldn’t continue. But see, all the files were stored in my PC!!! And I needed them TODAY! So, I went up to the 14th floor and went to each of the trainers involved and got them to save their slides onto my thumbdrive.
In the middle of doing this, a siren was sounded thru the PA system and the announcement went something like “An emergency has been reported. Please go to the nearest stairwell and evacuate the building . Do not use the elevators.”
I was like, “What??!!!! But we’re on the freaking 14th floor!!!!” So anyway, like typical Malaysians, there was some dilly-dallying (“Eh, really must go down ah?”) and then I walked down from the 14th floor all the way to my floor (6th). More dilly-dallying (apparently, the ppl on the 6th floor didn’t get the announcement so they didn’t know they had to evacuate), last minute packing up and we were finally out at the lobby.
They wanted to go get a drink at the mamak, but I wanted to put my bags in the car first. Had to walk down again the 4 floors to my car. Managed to get it parked up at Level 3. Walked up another 3 flights of stairs to the lobby.
And ended up with a headache from all the walking up and down the many many stairs!

I think, in total, I’d walked (both up and down):
5 + 4 + 8 + 6 + 4 + 3 + 3 = 33 FLOORS!!!!! (WAAAAAAA!) :-O
*I think the problem was some piping problem that originated from the 7th floor, which literally cascaded downwards to the floors below.
