Yup, that’s me having a ‘conversation’ with Sophia

Tomorrow is my last day at work (yay!!)

Since late last month, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’d like to do with my life, in anticipation of the expiry of my contract.

One idea stuck and the initial plan was to learn a new skill part-time, while still working full-time for a corporation.

But since early this month, I’ve been thinking really hard about whether I desire to continue to be in the corporate world because I’m really sick of the politics and especially the unethical behaviour of corporations.

I haven’t been working that long but my experience thus far has left me with total disgust at the way things work in the corporate world. I’m only a small fry in an organization so if the management wants to do things a certain way (however unethical I think it may be), at the end of the day, I still have to do it because they are paying me to do my job.

Some people can just close a blind eye and do what’s expected of them and go to sleep peacefully at night but unfortunately, I’m not one of those people. Those things that I HAVE to do even though I think it is wrong, would haunt me because of the mere fact that it is WRONG! And at the end of the day, I feel like crap for having to do what I did because I feel like I’ve let myself down by conforming to what was expected of me, even though it was wrong.

Which brings me to where I am now : Do I want to stay in the corporate world OR make a complete change once and for all?

Over teh halia with ChrisW, WPeng, and Foo this evening, I informed them of my current work status and also my dilemma and my potential career change.

They were very supportive and even came up with more ideas on what I could do! They’re significantly older than I am so they’ve got way more “life experience” than I have and are in the position to give me some advice. Foo even has some contacts that he said he’d check with. Sometimes, opportunities just appear out of nowhere! Isn’t that awesome??

How does “AiLiJelly” sound? And I don’t even need to pay someone a huge chunk of money to come up with a company name! Haha! (This one is the side biz, if it ever takes off. I’ve got another idea for the main one.)

I left feeling inspired but definitely more work has to be done for me to give myself the push to make the change that I feel I should make.

Am quite scared actually. It can get quite comfortable, working with a corporation and knowing that you’ll get your monthly salary no matter what. Getting out of that comfort zone takes some getting used to. Hopefully once I’ve got that push, I go full speed ahead.

Oooeeerrr… it is NOT the theme. Something’s wrong with WP database. This I gotta get the sifu to take a look at.

So today I blasted off an email to The S. Boss, excerpt as follows :

Please confirm if you wish to extend my services beyond the above date, as you had indicated yesterday. If yes, I would appreciate if you can provide me with a formal letter stating [insert company name]‘s intention to extend my services, with the following included in the letter:

1.    Duration of extension (start date and end date)
2.    Computation of my daily rate
3.    Total amount to be paid in lieu of my annual leave
4.    Current benefits would remain status quo throughout the duration of extension (i.e. EPF contributions (employee & employer), tax withholding, outpatient medical, etc.)
5.    Date of payment

As expected, they said dun want to extend la. HAH, they think they can con me the second time? I did payroll before, ok?! I highly doubted that they would want to go thru so much work just to get me to stay a few days. Anyway, I’m not important, only a small fry. But I’m not about to let them take me for a ride the second time, man.

According to auntie-colleague, she and The S. Boss were discussing resources today. And auntie-colleague remarked how come The S. Boss gave me less than a month’s notice regarding the non-renewal of my contract. You know what The S. Boss said?

Haiyah! There are a lot of headhunters ma!

Can you believe the nerve of this other example of an Imbecile Woman?! Whether there’s 1 headhunter or 1 million, I couldn’t care less! It’s a matter of being fair, for crying out loud! Easy for her to say… she being able to afford 2 or more luxury vehicles, to send all her 2/3 of a dozen kids to private school and one heading overseas soon.

I’ve had this bad feeling about her from the day I spoke to her at my interview, and it’s been growing since then. After this incident, I just feeling like b*tch-slapping her each time I see her… and also another person who deserves it too. Haha, yeah, that’s very childish of me but seriously, that’s what I feel like doing!

You want to know why employees don’t remain loyal to their companies? Well, it’s because of cases such as this. If you don’t know how to treat your employees, don’t expect them to be loyal to you. And STOP complaining that employees are not loyal. Examine how you treat your employees before condemning them as disloyal and ungrately turds.

… was the name of the test that I was doing yesterday, while I was at work. I clearing my emails in anticipation of my ceasing employment there and came across this email from an ex-colleague.

So, based on the set of questions that I had answered, apparently this is how people see me:

Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who is constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go to your head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding; someone who will always cheer them up and help them out.

The descriptions are pretty much accurate except of the “constantly in the center of attention” bit. But then again, I do enjoy performing so I guess it’s true to some extent? Hehe…

I’ve observed that many people are less-than-polite to other people whom they think are “below” them in, say, profession, salary, status, to name a few.

For example, I’ve seen people be rude to waiters/waitresses, petrol kiosk attendants, those sales people going around eateries selling their wares, cleaners/janitors, etc. just because they are customers and they think they can do whatever they like.

True, some of them deserve it coz they were rude to begin with but I believe that most of them are just trying to earn an honest living, some by cleaning up after other people’s messes, and the least we could do is to treat them as equals and be polite to them. Yes, even the cleaners in your office building or the waiter who’d just served you your meal.

Most of us know how hard we have to work to get our paycheck every month. Now just imagine double that amount of work/hours but less than half the pay.

Don’t you feel at least a bit thankful that you’re working in an air-conditioned environment, with all/most of the essentials at your fingertips (e.g. phone, computer, desk, chair, etc.)??

It really doesn’t hurt to be polite to people who do not have as good jobs as you do.

We were at Bangsar Village Mon evening to meet up with friends for dinner.

So we got into the basement carpark and started looking around for a spot. Found 2 cars that were coming out simultaneously, one on the left and one on the right . So I indicated to the right carpark (coz it was coming out first, before the one on the left) so the other car who was behind me indicated for the left. Because I prefer to reverse park, I went ahead a little to give myself some space to back in. But because the other car was on my left, I didn’t really have much space so I had to do some manouvering.

While I was trying to manouver my car, this Imbecile Woman in her fancy Mercedes suddenly appeared and smartly headed into the spot that I was trying to back into, like she was oblivious to the fact that I was trying to back in. Naturally, I honked to let her know that that was my spot.

Instead of being apologetic, she started gesturing angrily at me! I was thinking “WTF! I was here first and you have the nerve to be angry at ME?!” But of course, I kept my cool la. No point getting upset with imbeciles like that. In fact, I didn’t even acknowledge her after I had honked coz acknowledging her meant acknowledging her existence and that would be too kind. After I honked at her, she backed out a bit but she refused to back out more to give me more room to back into my spot, all the while still continuing with her gesturing.

So there I was, trying to manouver my car while the other driver was still waiting for his spot to be vacated. Since there wasn’t enough space for me to move, I gestured to the other car to come out of his/her spot so that the driver waiting could go in, and then I could have more space to back in.

And all this while, Imbecile Woman with her fancy car, acting like she owned the entire place, was still gesturing wildly while I was steadfastly ignoring her but HE was getting more and more pissed by the second and was having a heated gesturing argument with Imbecile Woman.

Finally, the waiting car could get into his now vacated spot and I had more space to go forward and back in. I came THIS close to hitting Imbecile Woman’s car while backing in (and that would’ve given me more pleasure than anything else) but I decided not to coz I didn’t want to damage my car.

Sheesshh!!!

What is it with some people who think that just coz they are rich and have fancy cars, they own every single place that they venture into? Imbecile Woman looked like one of those Malay tai-tais/datins as well. If she is one, she thinks she’s got the right to steal someone else’s parking spot, is it? HE said because of her behaviour, her puasa batal already. Haha!

I blame it on our society. Everyone kow-tows to these so-called datuks and datins and those wealthy tycoons that they have grown heads that are too big for their bodies. Admittedly, not all datuks/datins/wealthy tycoons are as rotten as Imbecile Woman but a lot of them are, sadly.

I couldn’t give a rat’s ass even if you’re royalty. If you can’t conduct yourself in a respectable manner and be polite and respectful to others, then you’re nothing. Not even a speck of dirt.

This company has serious problems with their professionalism.

The latest incident is this…

First, they confirmed that they are renewing my contract.

Now, they tell me that they are NOT renewing, apparently due to changes to their implementation strategy.”

What the…??!!!

It’s not that I’m hard-up for the job and I couldn’t be bothered about the reason you have for not renewing my contract but seriously, how unprofessional can an organization get?? If you tell me that you’re renewing my contract, obviously I would stop my job search, correct? And now you come and tell me that you’re not renewing, and giving me less than 1-month notice to find a new job?! WTF?!

Oh well… it’s good in a way la. I don’t have to stay and grit my teeth at their unscrupulousness and unprofessionalism anymore. Phew! What a relief! Of all the organizations I’ve worked with, this one takes the prize in terms of its politics and lack of integrity and professionalism.

This could be a blessing in disguise. I believe things happen for a reason

But this doesn’t change the fact that I think what they did was wrong and unprofessional. I just wish that I had remembered this fact when the boss was informing me and had said it straight to her face.

*smacks self in the head*

So I went to check out my first beauty expo yesterday.

It was really quite interesting! You have your beauty companies and cosmetic brands there and there were tons of slimming booths with the strangest products.

The beauty supplies were quite cheap as well. The brands that were sold there are not your usual off-the-shelf, commercial brands but I think those that are mostly used by salons or beauty parlors. I bought a couple bottles of shampoo and conditioner

There were tons of nail stations (i.e. manicures & pedicures) and apparently, eyebrow embroidery seems to be the in thing now. Tattooed eyebrows are things of the past. And we saw one lady getting her lips tattooed

Then we went to get detoxed via this ion detox gadget. You sit there with your feet in a tub of water. They’d put some powder thingie in the water and stick a pair of electrodes (is that what they’re called?) onto your shoulders. You have to sit there with the machine switched on for about 30 mins and all the while, you’ll be twitching away from the current coming from the machine. After a while, the water in which your feet are in will change color and depending on the color of the water, you can tell what type of toxins you have in your body. I can’t remembr what mine was, coz I couldn’t really tell what color of water that resulted from my detoxification!

Anyway, managed to get the info that I wanted. So, will see how it goes.
