Animals inspire me. And it is all the more inspiring to see an animal dealing with and adjusting to such adversity, and more importantly, showing US that if they can do it, there’s no reason why we can’t do the same, regardless of the severity of our ‘disabilities’.

Seeing these pictures drove in another point. If this dog had been in M’sia, she’d have been killed/euthanized straightaway, given the fact that animals in our society have been killed/euthanized even when they do have have any disabilities. I can just imagine someone here taking a look at a dog like this and immediately condemning her to death.

I read a lot. And I read a lot of pet memoirs. Anyone who reads pet memoirs will know that almost every book will have a chapter on the inevitable i.e. when the dearly loved pet passes on.

And I will also inevitably shed tears when I read this part of the story. Each time, without fail. The latest book, A Friend Like Henry. It is more heart-wrenching to read about the death of an animal when s/he has given so much to his/her owners, in this case, Henry the golden retriever brings an autistic boy out of his shell and helps him integrate into mainstream society.

What can I say? Animals are beautiful creatures who never fail to inspire me time and time again.

hahah, when i first showed this to rizal, at first glance, he said, “stupid dog, what’s he doing?”

i said, “oi, look closer la!”

and then he realised it had only the two hind legs. such a marvel, this dog! so poor thing but so heartwarming and heartwrenching at the same time.
