Anticipated Serendipity

Patches, age 13

May13

This is Patches. We call her Patchy.

Patchy : “Pbbbttthhh”

She has been with us since I was 17. She adopted us one fine morning. I was sleeping when I heard a commotion in the garden but I didn’t bother to wake up to find out what was happening.Later, I was told that a kitten had come into our  garden while my mom was hanging out the laundry and the kitten kept trying to rub against my mom’s legs, and my mom was trying her best not to let the kitten get near her. Haha, I can imagine my mom hopping around the garden, with this tiny kitten refusing to let her go :P

What happened after that was a blur. All I remember is that the kitten, now named Patches, just installed herself in our home and became part of my family.

Well, that was almost 13 years ago. Patchy is a grouchy, old woman now. But she seems to be doing ok healthwise (touch wood), except for some arthritic joints. Being obese doesn’t help but really, she doesn’t eat that much these days. Add in the fact that she’s got 4 molars removed.

I cannot imagine the day when she goes over to Rainbow Bridge. We are all so attached to her. She sleeps with my parents on their bed, sometimes right next to their pillows. They can hear her purring the whole night long.

Sometimes, she sleeps with me too. During the night, when I’m sleeping on my side, I can feel her warm body pressing against my back. It’s quite comforting.

She hasn’t been too fond of me after I brought back my other 2 cats from the States, who dethroned her from her Queen status, hehe. But it’s ok. She’ll forever be SuperKat to me :)
