Deep Green

April23

One of the things that I’ve observed of my current workplace and which I like is that they seem to “walk the talk”.

Aside from the usual revenue generation and customer service goals like many other organizations, one distinguishing initiative that this organization embarks on is their Deep Green initiative.

And they don’t just give lip service to being green, unlike my previous organization. So far, I have seen green initiatives being put in action throughout the office, such as :

1. Recycle bins are available within the office as well as in the parking lots.
2. The lights are switched off during lunch hour.
3. The cafeteria provides paper bags instead of plastic bags for people who wish to take away kuihs and such.
4. Staff who carpool are entitled to park their vehicles in the covered carpark, thus encouraging people to carpool.
5. Almost every week, there is a lunch screening of video(s) on a ‘green’ subject or on human impact to the earth.
6. The buildings (existing and in construction) have ’green’ components built-in.

I think it is also because your CEO and the previous CEO are Europeans (Scandinavians) where going green is not a fad (unlike here) but its something which they have incorporated as part of their lifestyle.

When i go shopping for food in the nearby NTUC, I bring this canvas trolley along.. makes me look like an auntylah but i save quite a alot of bags! And there are recycle bins at almost every HDB block!

    Christine!! :) Welcome back!

My previous employer was a global player, even larger than the current one. But the initiatives in the KL office were quite superficial, I felt.

But yes, our parent group being European does contribute to the extent to which being green is practiced and instilled here.

I bring along my own bags when I go shopping too :-) But sometimes I do take the plastic bags from Tesco or stores that use bio-degradable bags coz I’ll use them for my trash.

Recycle bins are still lacking here. There isn’t any at our apartment, although CL’s written in to request for them. So I will bring our recycleables to either my office bins or the bins at my parents’ place to recycle.

When are you coming back? Any firm date yet?

Should be end of June unless I have to extend my notice period ..am only doing this out of goodwill.

Oh thats strange as there are recycle bins at our condo.. thought they are the same management i.e. same developer… but I could be wrong.

Really looking forward to coming back but dreading the thought of physically packing and moving!

Maybe we should write in again and start complaining about the lack of recycling bins. Hmm…

Can’t wait till you come back and join us in Odissi again! :)
