Emo-ing

September8

Had a short powwow over cake and coffee, with the app manager after our gruelling full-day session with the client.

He is from the London office and he shared the differences between his office and the KL office.

The stark differences between how the London office values their staff vs. the KL office is quite appalling.

It seems that the London office sincerely cares about things like their employees career path, interests, work/life balance and they actually take the time to listen to their employees. They structure the teams based on the people, not the work. Whether they do this just to keep people happy or they sincerely do care about their staffs’ interests and welfare, I don’t know. But the end result is, people are happy with their work, people are happy to work for the firm, which ultimately leads to people being loyal to the company –> lower attrition rate.

Here, out of all the crappy things happening, the most insulting and demotivating thing I have heard coming from someone up there is that they (the bosses) will not hesitate to remove anyone who doesn’t perform, from the project. And I have also heard of one of them (the bosses), coming to check on my team at 10pm because he doesn’t think we are working hard enough.

What a way to motivate your staff! Already we are given an impossible timeline to meet and an equally ridiculous scope to deliver, and we are already working our butts off to deliver the work (I have colleagues who work till the wee hours and also weekends to get the work done, every single day and weekend), now they threaten to remove us from the project if we don’t deliver?!

You know, I am not surprised at all when people decide to resign. Not at all surprised.

You would think a large multinational firm like this who claims to have every benefit in the working world, would have proper policies and procedures to ensure their staffs’ welfare but in the end, they are just like any other chinapek company out there. Well, the KL arm, that is.

People tell me to detach myself from work and just do what I can but I find it difficult to do so because I must do my best because that is my nature. I cannot deliver something substandard. And because of this, I will get affected by all this nonsense because crap, my contribution is not being appreciated! How can one not be angry and demotivated?!

Being very emo at the moment because I am feeling very shitty. And I don’t need anyone to tell me to (1) quit my job and find another one, or (2) deal with it coz this is how every organization works, because that is not the point.

Seriously. I will bite.

Life… again.

June9

Why is it when we are kids, we’re so eager to grow up. But when we’re adults, we keep wanting to be kids again.

Life is so blaaaahh… bored, restless, demotivated, unappreciated… and the damn ectopic thing is back again. Gah!

There must be something more to life than this… must dig deeper and find it before I combust and *poof*.

But really, I shouldn’t complain. At least I’m healthy (for now) and don’t have to deal with a terminal illness. Note to self : Must.be.thankful.

I get irked

May27

…when people think that I don’t know what to do and they feel it is their duty to tell me what to do.

…when people make it seem like they are helping me but in reality, they are trying to steer my actions in the direction that they wish.

Seriously… can people just leave me alone to do things the way I want it??? This annoys me to no end!

Morons who don’t know how to use the toilet

May19

ARGH!!! I swear some people have no toilet etiquette whatsoever!

If you drop toilet paper on the floor, pick it up!

If you’re using the bidet correctly, the water shouldn’t be splashing OUT of the toilet bowl and into the next stall, wetting my pants!

If you soil/wet the toilet seat, bloody clean it up!

And why can’t people keep the toilet floor DRY???!!!!

What is wrong with you people?!!!!! Do you need a course on how to use the bloody toilet??!!!!

GAH!!!! *fuming*

Missed Opportunity

May3

Dammit! How come my brains don’t work fast when I need them to?!

Hmph!

I missed a golden opportunity to ‘inform’ someone whom I consider the loudspeaker around my condo area, about my work in spaying/neutering the stray cats around here. Especially since she was so ‘kindly’ telling me that the people around here are getting angry with the cats because apparently they are peeing on cars and such. Which I find rather strange. Cats are finicky animals, especially when it comes to their hygiene and they like to cover their poop and pee. Cars are smooth, metallic objects… nothing to cover their pee. Hmm…

So anyway, she was telling me… ‘Oh, just to let you know, people are getting angry with the cats… bla bla bla… so just letting you know, be careful when you’re feeding the cats to avoid unpleasantness… etc. etc.’

I guess I’m glad that she told me so that I know what’s happening (that was because I was walking back to my place and bumped into her and these 2 cats just dashed out and started following me because they thought I was gonna feed them). And I know she’s not fond of the cats either.

But I so missed the chance to tell her about my work because my brains didn’t work fast enough! Something like “You know, I have been working all these years to neuter these cats so that they don’t reproduce so we won’t have so many cats around. But nobody knows it and all they can do is complain and do nothing. At least I am being proactive about this issue and doing something about it. I don’t earn anywhere near as much as the people who stay here do but I use my hard-earned salary to pay for the surgeries myself. But all I hear are complaints. Do you know how discouraging it is for a young person who is trying to do good in this world to hear people complain and do nothing? I don’t get anything out of doing this, except a smaller bank account balance and knowing that these cats can’t reproduce, which maintains the stray cat population, in the hopes that people will be a bit more tolerant and don’t complain.”

I know I know, my approach is totally wrong. Must not be accusatory because it will put people in the auto-defensive mode but seriously, these people just complain complain complain and do nothing and the next thing I know, all the cats disappear and I hear that the management poisoned them to get rid of them. Oh wait, they don’t do nothing. They do do something. They complain to the management.

I don’t know if she or anyone else cares if I’m Mother Teresa for animals (I am not) but at least I make it known that I’m not just feeding them for fun.

Dammit, I don’t know when I’ll get such an opportunity again! *wail!*

Stupid stupid stupid! *smacks head against the wall*

There is an online community for the residents to sign-up to, to share whatever they wish regarding living in this development. Should I sign-up and publicize my work with the cats? At the moment, my cons list is more than the pros e.g. people might not be receptive and jump to the conclusion and point fingers at me for all their cat-related issues or worse, they might harass my parents about it, since I’m not the owner of our unit. And even if they were receptive, they might think that I have all the solutions to the stray problem and dump all their woes on me, when my focus at the moment is to keep the population under control. I can offer suggestions, but I’m not an all-problem solver.

Can someone please advise me??

Conflicts

April27

Battling conflicting thoughts/views is physically draining.

Where does one draw the line?

Is it all worth it?

Curse ‘em litterbugs!

WKU 8782

You are a shameless, selfish, inconsiderate moron for throwing your trash out of your car onto the road this morning.

Even little children would be ashamed of you.

What the…???!!!

January16

I do not understand how some people function or think.

How come some people MUST insist on parking their car :

(1) In a non-parking spot, right in front of the elevator, when there are available spots farther in the parking lot? God gave us legs for what?

(2) Along the main road outside a building (say, a shopping mall) when the parking fee is only RM1 or at most RM3? Are times really that bad that they have to stinge on their parking fee? But they’re driving nice cars, not some old rusty junk. Plus if times are really that bad, they shouldn’t be hanging out at shopping malls even. And not to mention, they are blocking HALF the freaking road for other road users and causing unnecessary traffic jams!

Gah! Morons.

What is the point…

January12

… of trying to plan leave in advance but the person who is supposed to approve your leave is not willing to accept your leave plan just coz there MIGHT be a lot of work during that time? I mean, so are we now not allowed to take leave at all during a project?

And it’s not like I’m planning to take a whole week off! Just a couple of miserable days!

Gah!

Annoyed to the max! Hmph.

Peeved!!

Update

Ahah!!!! I found the culprit!! Or rather, the culprit owned up. It was one of the BOYS. Naturally, I gave him a piece of my mind. He better not do it again. Hmph! :P

Some people just don’t understand the concept of open workstations.

One thing I detest to see when I get in to work first thing in the morning is that my workstation has been visibly utilized. Of course, I have no problems with people using my workstation (although it’s an open concept, I currently have my permanent space… for now). But isn’t it common sense that when you use someone else’s or a public space, you should return it to its original condition? I.e. table cleared of your cup and crumbs of food, and chair returned to its place under the table.

I always make sure that when I’m done using a workstation, it will be spotless by the time I leave.

Why can’t some people adhere to this rule of thumb and be considerate?? They think others are there to pick up after their messes, is it???

BAH!
