14th October 2010 : We celebrated DiGi’s 15th anniversary with a bang! We created the country’s longest human domino and got into the Malaysia Book of Records with a total 1409 pax!

The day started with most DiGizens meeting at D’House and in a convoy of 30-40 buses, we were police-escorted to Pavillion. If you’ve never been in a large convoy and police-escorted, it’s quite a grand feeling when you see the whole fleet of buses with their hazard lights on and police escorts in the front, back and sides Yeah I know, syiok sendiri

The Incredibles! This is part of our team

When we were dropped off outside JW Marriot, it looked like a sea of yellow suddenly overtook Jln Bukit Bintang because we had one our yellow DiGi t-shirts. I’m sure we made quite a sight!

Swarms of Yellow, crossing Jln Bukit Bintang

It took a while for us to get organized into our lines. Well, not us as in my team, but the other teams after us. The MC, Edwin Sumun, got a bit irritated when some teams wouldn’t listen to instructions. LOL! There were almost 80 teams with 20 pax each, I believe.

Our MC, Edwin Sumun

Here come the Yellow Men!

After sitting on the ground under the afternoon sun for about 45 mins or so, the human domino was officiated for real with Hands Percussion performing a drum piece throughout the entire thing and Adam Lambert’s “For Your Entertainment” playing out loud. The cool thing was that those of us who were down on the ground after our domino turn (and had to stay down until the last person was down) started clapping in unison while the rest of the domino was getting completed. It was such an awesome feeling!

When the announcement was made that DiGi had officially made it to the Malaysia Book of Records for the longest human domino, everyone jumped up and cheered… and promptly made our way to the Pavillion food court coz it was way past our lunchtime!

Actually, it was a good thing that we were a bit behind schedule coz the food court was quite empty when we finally made our way there. Else, we’d have to fight our way with the lunch crowd. Imagine, 1400+ DiGizens with the rest of KL!

The sea of Yellow surged to Pavillion's food court

After lunch, there was a mini treasure hunt, where we were required to carry out some tasks and solve some puzzes to get to our final destination i.e. DINNER! These included :

1. Going into a “glass house” outside the newly renovated KL Plaza (now known as Fahrenheit 88), put on some prompt and dance to the music played to put a smile on passersby/shoppers faces.
2. Tell x no. of customers about DiGi products and stick a heart sticker on them.
3. Give out 10 cupcakes to shoppers and tell them it’s DiGi birthday!
4. Exchange plastic bags with shoppers and give them a reusable bag in return to discourage use of plastic bags and promote the green message.
5. Get x no. of customers to write a birthday message to DiGi.
6. Solve 4 puzzles to reveal our final destination!

We had a bit of a problem solving the no. 6 but we got it in the end and after changing to our black tees, we headed over to Starhill Feast Village for a scrumptious dinner! The whole entire area was reserved for DiGizens and we had the opportunity to try out all the restaurants there. Unfortunately, I was still full from the late lunch and couldn’t eat very much What a shame!

All changed into our black tees for the night

Douglas Lim was there to do his stand-up comedy but I only managed to catch the end bit of his program. A couple of members from Floor Fever then came up to take us thru some simple dance moves to get us warmed up before we all headed out to catch our buses to Bukit Jalil for ADAM LAMBERT!!!!!

Douglas Lim was there!

We lost our police escorts halfway to Bukit Jalil so we got stuck in the massive traffic jam heading there. But then our escorts materialized from somewhere and paved the way for our buses! I was glad I wasn’t one of the cars there that day coz there were quite a no. of DiGi buses which they’d had to let through. Although if I were one of the car drivers, I may have been quite pissed off but then again, when I think about it, we were actually reducing the no. of cars that day by coming on buses. Plus it’s more green, I believe

Caught up with Jo, GK, Steph, and PF waiting at the A&W line (they were my guests for the free tickets I got them to get into The Pit). Went to join the long queue to collect the free tickets. While waiting for our turn, Mich and I saw a bunch of protesters (from PAS and some Malay graduates society)and FRU folk in the parking area (a bit off the the stadium). We saw some of the handouts they were passing to people, condemning Lambert for his “gay lifestyle” and urging people not to attend his concert. Since they seemed quite peaceful, we didn’t give a second thought about them.

After collecting the tickets, we headed to the stadium entrance to go in. All of a sudden, we saw the protestors marching to the entrance and chanting loudly. I think the RELA volunteers manning the entrance doors panicked and tried to rush people inside and started closing the doors. My friends and I tried another door but the dude wouldn’t let us in! So there I was, getting really scared what’s gonna happen if these people turned violent so me and Mich (I lost my other friends in the confusion) hurried towards one of the queues and finally managed to get in.

Two thoughts that raced thru my mind in that few minutes of panic were “What’s gonna stop one of them from starting a fire with all of us inside?” and “What the hell were the FRU people thinking, letting them get so close to the entrance?!” And later, when my mind was clearer, I was really angry because tear gas and water cannons had been used in muce more peaceful demonstrations than this! Reflect Bersih and Hindraf. Where were the tear gas and water cannons this time?! I realize that if they really had used tear gas and water cannons, innocent bystanders like myself and my friends might’ve been caught in the midst of it but seriously, did they consider this when they deployed the same at other peaceful rallies? Innnocent bystanders were hit as well then. Doesn’t this absolutely reek of double standards?? Gawd, this makes me so angry!!! It wouldn’t have been so bad if they had a peaceful protest but when they started marching towards the stadium and chanting loudly, I saw it as intimidation, to create panic in people, and ultimately chaos. And it is just so wrong because people were there to enjoy an entertainment show. What part of “entertainment show” don’t they understand?? If they don’t agree with the content or the person delivering the content, then don’t watch! But don’t deprive other people or judge other people for wanting to be part of the show.

At the end of the day, this just goes to show their immaturity and lack of faith in people. Like, how is it possible that just by watching a gay artiste, one would become gay as well? First of all, his being gay is a non-issue and shouldn’t even be mentioned because it has nothing to do with him being an artiste. And secondly, I don’t believe people can “become gay”. You’re either gay or not. You don’t “become” gay. What a load of crap.

Anyway, aside from the incident above, the concert went well. Adam wowed the crowd, toned down his act and delivered an enjoyable show. It was gracious of him to adhere to whatever regulations the organizers/authorities subjected to him just to bring his show to his Msian fans and I applaud him for it.

Adam in action!

Love his costume, so drama!

Goodbye & good night!

An awesome end to a great day! Happy Birthday, DiGi!
